Zine #12 - Airport

Travelling is part of my work, so I spend a fair amount of time at airports—departing, arriving or waiting for the next flight.

Some airports feel like self-contained cities, with trains, shops, hotels, prayer rooms and long corridors that can be confusing to navigate. Others, especially in smaller economies, are much simpler and provide only the basics.

The experience can also depend on how the airport is run. Some airports make a real effort to make the journey easier and more comfortable, while others leave you mostly to figure things out yourself. Customs and immigration officers can be friendly and welcoming, but sometimes they can make the journey more difficult—though, as they might say, they are only doing their job.

But beyond the terminals, security checks and departure boards, every person at an airport has more than just a destination. Everyone has a story. Somewhere, someone may be waiting excitedly for them to arrive, while someone else may already be missing them.
